The introduction of visa-free regime between the European Union (EU) and Ukraine requires five more approvals by European institutions, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze has said.

“Five more procedural moments are to be passed before we reach this holiday – the signing of the decision to provide visa-free regime for Ukraine as it happened for Georgia. This is making the decision by the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) where they approve the results of the trialogue, then the decision of one of the committees the [European Parliament’s Committee] on Civil Liberties, [Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE)], the discussion and approval at the plenary session of the European Parliament, return to Coreper and eventually the approval by the European Council,” she told reporters in Kyiv on March 2.

She said that the procedural moments left require synchrony.

“There is a possible schedule, and it could be moved by several weeks… I understand that this positive decision for Ukraine will be made,” she said.

As reported, on March 1, the trialogue between the Council of the EU, the European Commission and the European Parliament on the introduction of visa free regime for Ukrainian citizens ended on March 1.
