Investigators are establishing the identity of the assassin of former State Duma deputy Denis Voronenkov, who had documents of a Ukrainian citizen on him, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said.

“Yes, his identity is being verified, documents are being checked,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on March 23.

The prosecutor general also noted that the murderer had documents of a Ukrainian citizen on him, they are being checked for authenticity.

The Kyiv-based Obozrevatel.ua (Observer) news portal said referring to its sources that Voronenkov’s killer was on the wanted list. “The killer was born in 1988. He was wanted by Dnipro law enforcement officers for committing crimes under Articles 205 and 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (sham business and legalization of proceeds from crime),” the Observer reported.
