Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has congratulated Volodymyr Zelenskiy on his victory in the presidential elections in Ukraine and assured in his country’s support in the resolution of the conflict in Donbas through negotiations, as well as reforms being carried out in the Ukrainian state.

“Dear President, on the occasion of your election as President of Ukraine, I want to express my own congratulations on your high office on behalf of the Italian government … I count on the fact that cooperation between Rome and Kyiv will significantly deepen during your tenure,” Conte said in his letter to the newly elected President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the text of which was published on the website of the Italian Embassy in Ukraine on Wednesday.

The head of the Italian government notes that the bonds of friendship between the two countries have long roots, which over the years has turned into a fruitful political, economic and cultural partnership at the institutional level and at the level of civil society.

Also in the context of the voiced expectations of deepening cooperation between Ukraine and Italy, Conte assured Zelenskiy of his state’s support in solving the conflict in the eastern regions of Ukraine by negotiating the conflict and restoring and strengthening the reforms needed for your state’s future.”
