Deputy Chairmen of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Ilmi Umerov and Akhtem Chiygoz, who are currently in Ankara, Turkey, will return to Ukraine on Thursday, Oct.26.

“They will be in Kyiv tomorrow, tomorrow they will either meet with Erdogan (Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan), or with the Prime Minister [of Turkey], and then they want to come here after all,” the authorized representative of Ukraine’s president for Crimean Tatar people affairs, the ex-head of Mejlis, Mustafa Jemilev, said on the air of Channel 5 on Oct.25 evening.

According to him, Chiygoz told him this on the phone just before the broadcast.

Jemilev also said Umerov and Chiygoz were offered medical examination and treatment in Turkey, “but they want to come here (to Ukraine) as soon as possible.”

As reported, on Sept. 11, the Russian court in the annexed Crimea sentenced Chiygoz to eight years in high-security prison. On Sept. 27, the Simferopol District Court sentenced Umerov to two years in low-security penal colony.

On Oct. 25, they were handed over to Turkey, after which they will go to Ukraine. They have been discharged from prison but they are forbidden to live in Crimea, which is why they will be working in Kyiv.
