Journalist Nariman Memedeminov, a citizen of Ukraine detained in the occupied Crimea, is in a critical condition, a surgery scheduled for March 14, has not been carried out, Verkhovna Rada’s Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova has reported.

According to her, a dermatovenerologist discovered a dangerous disease when examining Memedeminov.

“On February 12, 2019 the diagnosis was confirmed and a surgery was scheduled for March 14. But as of today the surgery has not been done. I am concerned because the man is in a critical condition. A failure to provide urgent medical treatment to the political prisoner threatens his health and could lead to serious irreversible consequences,” Denisova said on Facebook.

According to her, she turned to her Russian counterpart, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova, on the issue of the health of Memedeminov.

“I asked Moskalkova to immediately take steps to conduct a surgery for the citizen of Ukraine,” Denisova said.
