The Justice Ministry of Ukraine would attract a legal advisor to recognize and execute the ruling of the Ukrainian court in foreign jurisdictions that Russia’s Gazprom is to pay Hr 172 billion for violation of legislation on protection of economic competition under a decision of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at a meeting on July 4 approved the attraction of the advisor by the Justice Ministry using the negotiations.

The legal advisor is to analyze the possibility of recognizing the ruling of the Ukrainian court in the Netherlands and the U.K.

As reported, the Antimonopoly Committee in January 2016 decided to fine Gazprom Hr 85 billion for abuse of its monopoly of the Ukrainian market for transit shipments of natural gas. This decision was upheld on several occasions by Ukrainian courts. Later the sum of the fine had grown to Hr 172 billion (about $6.4 billion) with penalties for nonpayment.

Assets belonged to Gazprom in Ukraine are being arrested.
