You're reading: Klimkin says agreement with Putin on Donbas not possible

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said that he considers it impossible to reach an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the resolution of the conflict in Donbas.

“I think that it is impossible to conclude an agreement with Putin on Donbas. It is impossible. At the same time, we need some situational agreement on a ceasefire, on ending this hot phase of the war, of course. But it is impossible to conclude an agreement, since Putin wants Ukraine, the one we want, will disappear,” said Klimkin at a public discussion of the activities of the Foreign Ministry with veterans in Kyiv on July 25.

At the same time, the diplomat noted that the current leadership of the Russian Federation is seeking to impose the idea of the federalization of Ukraine as a realistic scenario for resolving the conflict.

Klimkin is confident that federalization means the end for the Ukrainian state.
