You're reading: Klimkin says UN General Assembly’s resolution to be used for de-occupation of Ukraine

The UN General Assembly’s resolution entitled “Problem of the Militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol, Ukraine, as well as Parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov”, which was adopted on December 17, will be used for the de-occupation of the territory of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said in a statement.

“Ukraine has confirmed its dedication to settling the Russian-Ukrainian conflict by political and diplomatic means. In connection with this, the new resolution will be used in the context of Ukraine’s efforts for de-occupying the territory of our nation, as well as restoring the stability in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov region,” the statement says.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the adoption of this resolution “has confirmed a clear stance of the international community on supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemning Russia’s aggression.”

“Despite Russia’s desperate attempts to undermine the adoption of the document, the UN General Assembly has once again condemned the temporary occupation of the Crimean peninsula by the Russian Federation as the occupying Power and sent a clear signal about the non-recognition of its annexation. Russia must withdraw its armed forces from Crimea and discontinue the illegitimate occupation of the territory of Ukraine immediately,” the statement reads.

As earlier reported, the UN General Assembly on December 17 adopted a resolution in which it voiced its concerns about Russia’s ongoing actions in the areas near the Black and Azov Seas, including their militarization, called to discontinue the annexation of Crimea, withdraw Russian armed forces, and release the Ukrainian naval seamen taken prisoners of war near the Kerch Strait.
