Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said he is confident that Russia will continue to attempt to destabilize the situation in Zakarpattia region and stresses that Ukraine is ready to counteract this.

“It is Russia that is trying to destabilize the situation in Zakarpattia region, where we have a Hungarian community… I am confident that Moscow will continue to try to destabilize the situation there. We will consistently counteract this… We will not allow them to threaten our Hungarians – Ukrainians of Hungarian descent,” he said at a joint news conference with Finnish Foreign Minister Timo Soini in Kyiv on March 5.

Klimkin said that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry had been in constant dialogue with the Security Service of Ukraine and the Interior Ministry in order to thwart attempts to destabilize the situation in Zakarpattia region.

“All those who are trying to talk about anti-Hungarian sentiments or the anti-Hungarian campaign should turn directly to Moscow, to the Kremlin and the central office of the FSB,” he added.
