The upgrading of outdoor lighting in Kyiv, for which it is planned to allocate Hr 300 million this year, will increase security in the streets and save significant funds of the city budget, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said.

“New modern lighting helps make our streets much better illuminated and safe, so our task is to replace all the lighting in Kyiv. We will be able to save Hr 30-40 million on electricity annually,” he said on the Kyiv television channel on February 23, adding that every year the Ukrainian capital pays Hr 120 million for outdoor lighting.

He added that there are already first positive comments from residents of the city, who saw new outdoor lighting on Oleny Telihy Street, Lesi Ukrainky Boulevard and other streets.

“It means traffic safety and saving of large funds. We must use modern technologies,” Klitschko said.

According to the mayor, this year the outdoor lighting will be modernized at 163 sites in Kyiv – streets, bridges, parks, and areas adjacent to residential houses.
