ST. PETERSBURG – Roscosmos is planning to use the Vostochny cosmodrome infrastructure for the Angara carrier rocket jointly with the Defense Ministry, the state corporation’s chief Igor Komarov told journalists.

By 2025 the Angara rocket will have one launch pad at Vostochny and one at Plesetsk, he said.

“We understand that there are specific requirements that both we and the Russian Defense Ministry have from the standpoint of ensuring safe launches and the need for them. So there is an understanding that by 2025 we will create one new launch pad at Vostochny, and we intend to use it jointly with the Russian Defense Ministry,” Komarov said.

“Moreover, we have agreed to jointly use this pad at Vostochny, understanding that their building organizations have built all launch structures that exist in Russia and Kazakhstan, and have a unique experience,” Komarov said.

The Angara complex “will be built by an organization we will choose in the near future, and most likely it will be a Russian Defense Ministry company,” the Roscosmos chief said.
