You're reading: Kravchuk: Neither Minsk Agreements, nor peacekeepers in Donbas to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity

The deployment of a peacekeeping mission in Donbas would be an acceptable step, even though it will not completely resolve the problem, first Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk said.

“I support the idea of peacekeepers, not as a way of completely resolving the issue but as an important step. But as a matter of fact it is unrealistic today, because Russia has an absolutely different opinion,” Kravchuk told journalists in Kyiv on Friday.

Russia will not agree to an option that differs from its vision as regards peacekeepers, he said.

Moreover, the Minsk process will also not help restore Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Kravchuk said.

The Minsk process “was necessary at one time so as not to allow Russia’s aggression to spread, but it is not yielding results today,” he said.

“The Minsk process will not resolve the primary and fundamental issue of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Ukrainian democratic power on its entire territory,” Kravchuk said.
