Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed ways to settle the conflict in Donbas and other issues in a recent phone call.

“While exchanging opinions on the internal Ukrainian crisis, the sides discussed the establishment of a UN mission to guard OSCE monitors,” the Kremlin’s press service said on May 11 after the conversation, which was held at Germany’s initiative.

“The parties agreed to intensify work in the Normandy format,” it said.

“Angela Merkel informed [Putin] about the results of her meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Aachen on May 10,” the press service said.
