Russian President Vladimir Putin has had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko at the Ukrainian side’s initiative, the Kremlin’s press service said on Saturday.

“Special attention was paid to humanitarian issues, including the exchange of detained persons. Vladimir Putin stressed the necessity of the immediate release of Russian journalists arrested in Ukraine,” the press service said.

The parties reached “an agreement on visits of both countries’ human rights commissioners to Russian citizens in custody in Ukraine and Ukrainian ones in Russia,” it said.
