You're reading: Kuleba says ‘we must open all windows of EU cooperation’

It is necessary to open all the windows of EU cooperation before the EU opens its doors for Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said, stressing that he is now most interested in “concrete, down-to-earth economic results” in relations with the EU.

“And these are concrete steps to integrate Ukraine into the domestic market, to develop our sectoral cooperation, to create the most comfortable conditions for the travel of Ukrainian citizens. We must open all windows of EU cooperation before the EU opens doors for us,” Kuleba said at the online briefing on Thursday.

He said that the EU is going through difficult times.

“What can be more specific than the EU’s recognition that Ukraine will someday be a member of the EU? The EU is going through difficult times. As our classical poet said: “Myrhorod is not the same, and the Khorol River is not the same.” We can say the same: “Brussels is not the same, and the Elbe River is not the same.” There are many problems, we see how difficult European integration is for the Balkan countries, as they have long been promised membership in the EU, and now questions arise,” Kuleba said.

According to him, Ukraine should really weigh the possibilities of getting EU membership right now.

“I believe that we should be realistic idealists, that is, believe in the best, in the end, we will get what we want, but really weigh the possibilities of getting it right now. Therefore, the negotiation process is underway,” he added.
