Kyiv is ready to negotiate compensation for the loss of revenues from gas transit after the launch of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.

“If we are offered negotiations for compensation, we will consider it. But we will not necessarily agree to what we are offered,” Kuleba said in an interview with the German ezine Welt on June 13.

According to him, he has the impression that recently the U.S. intention to seek compensation for Ukraine in the event of the completion of the gas pipeline “has significantly increased.”

Kuleba noted that the gas pipeline is only a security threat for Ukraine.

“Therefore, we say that the gas pipeline should be used as a lever to induce Russia to play a constructive role in the peace process in eastern Ukraine,” the minister added.
