You're reading: Kurchenko to sue Lutsenko over Saakashvili statements

Businessman Serhiy Kurchenko has said he does not know the leader of the New Forces Movement party, ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, but is acquainted with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

“I do not know Saakashvili and I do not want to get acquainted with him, but I know well Poroshenko,” Kurchenko’s press service quoted him as saying, according to the ‘Komsomolska Pravda in Ukraine.’

At the same time, Kurchenko claims that in 2013 he bought a media holding company UMH-Group from Poroshenko for $400 million.

He also called irresponsible statements of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko that Kurchenko financed the protests of Saakashvili aimed at overthrowing then existing government.

In addition, Kurchenko said that he is filing a “claim for protection of honor and dignity for spreading slander against Yuriy Lutsenko.”

As reported, on Dec. 5, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko claimed the leader of the New Forces Movement party, ex-head of Odesa regional state administration, Mikheil Saakashvili, received from the fugitive Serhiy Kurchenko $500,000 for his activities in Ukraine: “A citizen of Ukraine Severion Dengadze, in agreement with Saakashvili, turned through a confidant to Serhiy Kurchenko, who is fleeing from prosecution … on the issue of the stable financing of Saakashvili’s activities in exchange for the interests of the members of the organized criminal group. We recorded a $500,000 receipt of funds from the Russian side for Saakashvili.”

In turn, Saakashvili said that he doesn’t know Kurchenko.
