You're reading: Kyiv appeals court gives permission to arrest judge Kireyev

Kyiv’s Court of Appeals has granted permission to arrest former Pechersky District Court judge Rodion Kireyev for determining terms of his pretrial confinement.

The court’s press service on Sept. 19 said appeals court judges reviewed the decision of Kyiv’s Desniansky District Court on July 6 to not satisfy the request.

The appeals court ruled to grant prosecutors the right to arrest Kireyev and struck down the lower court’s ruling.

As earlier reported, Kireyev, who in 2011 convicted ex-premier Yulia Tymoshenko in the so-called “gas case,” has been on the wanted list since 2014.
Ukraine’s High Council of Justice in November 2015 formally sacked him as a judge at the Pechersky District Court and Ukrainian Petro Poroshenko signed an order on Jan. 18, 2016 to dismiss him.
