You're reading: Kyiv asks Israel to extradite ex-energy minister Stavytsky

Kyiv has asked Israel to transfer former energy and coal industry minister Eduard Stavytsky to Ukraine, Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yevhen Yenin has said.

“The request has been sent, we have an official confirmation of the receipt of this request,” he said on Channel 5 on the evening of May 4.

Yenin added that Stavytsky had an opportunity to sign an agreement with the investigation, but he rejected it. “Accordingly, we have asked the court for permission to apply a special procedure for conviction in absentia, after which we will announce the verdict and apply other procedures to return this person to Ukraine,” he said.

As reported, on March 24, 2014 the Prosecutor General of Ukraine issued a wanted notice on Stavytsky. He is suspected of embezzlement on a large scale.

It was reported on Interpol website on August 4 that Stavytsky is wanted by Interpol. According to the information, Ukraine is making a search for former minister on charges of misappropriation, embezzlement or misappropriation by malpractice in especially large sizes.

Stavytsky is reportedly in Israel, he changed his name to Rosenberg.

On May 4, 2017, defense lawyer Yuriy Ivaschenko said Interpol decided to stop the international search for ex-minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky.
