Kyiv will not slow down the pace of road renovation and this year the capital plans to repair at least 300 km of roads, city mayor Vitali Klitschko has said.

“Unequivocally, we should not slow down the pace of road repairs. We inherited roads in a terrible state, some of them had not been repaired for 20-30 years. I remind you that in 2016 we repaired 200 km of roads, and in 2017 some 300 km. And we plan to repair at least 300 km of roads this year,” he said.

He noted that with such a pace of road repairs, over two or three years Kyiv will meet European standards of road quality.

“Road repairs are not only a new asphalt covering. It’s new sidewalks, new lighting, new pedestrian crossings, this is an integrated approach,” the mayor stated.

The mayor noted the city authorities control the quality of new road surface and the effectiveness of the contractor’s using funds when carrying out repairs. He also noted that contractors give a guarantee of five years for new roads.
