Kyiv has begun further negotiations on the release of Ukrainian citizens held captive in the self-proclaimed Donbas republics, the channel 112.Ukraine said, citing Presidential Representative to the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Lutsenko.

Militants have confirmed the whereabouts of over 20 detained Ukrainians, Lutsenko said.

“The negotiations are in progress; I cannot say there will be 93 people but at least the separatists have confirmed [the whereabouts] of 23 to 25 people and are ready to exchange them,” Lutsenko said at Kyiv Boryspil Airport where Ukrainian citizens released in Donbas arrived early on Dec.28 morning.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is planning “to do a lot to bring back our guys convicted in Russia,” Lutsenko said.

“This strategy is being developed and will be implemented in a dedicated manner,” she said.
