Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the attack on the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Iraq on Tuesday, December 31, 2019.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, noting the normalization of the situation around the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, strongly condemns the attack the United States Embassy in the Republic of Iraq on December 31, 2019,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on Jan. 2.

In addition, the Ukrainian ministry, on the basis of the principles of inviolability of the premises of diplomatic missions and their protection by the receiving state, called on the Iraq’s government to take all appropriate measures to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure the necessary level of security for foreign diplomatic missions in Baghdad.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, protesters reportedly attempted to break into the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo decided to postpone his visits to Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Cyprus in early January as a result of the attack.
