Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has announced a special confiscation in early 2018 of another Hr 5 billion belonging to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his entourage.

“We have a plan to confiscate another Hr 5 billion. Therefore early next year we will hold this special confiscation, and I hope that this time the government will be more organized, and we will help start a number of criminal proceedings for negligence for those who took the money and could not bring them to the people,” he said during an interview with Ukrainian television channels aired on December 26 evening.

Lutsenko noted that of the Hr 22 billion of previously confiscated funds that were distributed in June, only Hr 5 billion were disbursed as of December 1. “In legal language, this means negligence of officials who take money and cannot use them. It just infuriates me,” he stressed.

The prosecutor general intends to demand that next year all the funds stolen by “Yanukovych’s organized criminal gang” reach Ukrainian people.
