The cyber police in Kyiv have exposed an employee of a financial company who attempted to sell data on the company’s clients, the press service of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police in Kyiv has reported.

“Employees of the Kyiv cyber police directorate of the Cyber Police Department, together with employees of the Kyiv’s Shevchenkivske police department in Kyiv, have identified and stopped thwarted an attempt to sell the company’s database. A former employee of the financial institution tried to sell information,” the report says.

According to the report, the man previously worked in a financial company that offered loan services to citizens. During his work in the post he, using the vulnerability of the system, intervened in the database and got access to the list of the firm’s clients. Then, he posted an announcement on the Internet about the sale of this database. He wanted to get $4,000 for it and already intended to sell information to representatives of a company-competitor.

The department reported that a pre-trial investigation is continuing as part of criminal proceedings initiated under Part 1, Article 362 (unauthorized actions with information) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Seized equipment was sent for examination. Based on its results, a decision will be made to serve the man with a notice of suspicion.
