The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses its strong protest in connection with the continuation of the illegal practice of sending by the Russian Federation the so-called “humanitarian convoys” to the territory of Ukraine, according to the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Aug. 12.

“On August 12, the Russian Federation once again ignored the previously expressed repeated warnings of Ukraine and without its official consent, in violation of the legislation of Ukraine, the conditions and modalities for the delivery of humanitarian aid, illegally sent the 102nd so-called ‘humanitarian convoy’ consisting of seven trucks and escort of two vehicles of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations,” the statement says.

It notes that the passage took place through a section of the Ukrainian state border not controlled by the Ukrainian government, through the Russian border checkpoints Donetsk and Matveyev Kurgan.

“The absence of legal grounds made it impossible for representatives of the Ukrainian border and customs authorities to register it [‘humanitarian convoy’] as stipulated by the Ukrainian legislation,” the Ukrainian diplomats say.

They say that in this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent a note of protest to the Russian Foreign Ministry demanding that the Russian Federation “stop committing illegal actions against the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state and unswervingly adhere to international law and the Ukrainian legislation.”
