The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has sent a note to Russia demanding that independent doctors be granted access to Ukrainian political prisoner Oleh Sentsov for a medical examination, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mariana Betsa has said.

“How difficult it is to read Oleh Sentsov’s letter […] His condition is critical. We demand that Russia grant access for the Ukrainian consul and doctors. We demand his release,” Betsa wrote on her Twitter page on Oct. 5.

“We have just sent another note to Russia demanding that Ukrainian and international doctors be granted access to Sentsov for an independent examination. We must save Oleh,” she added.

Earlier on Friday, lawyer Dmitry Dinze issued a statement by Sentsov on his decision to stop his hunger strike from October 6 due to the threat of the beginning of force-feeding.
