The European Parliament (EP) was wrong in its decision to postpone considering the issue of visa liberalization with Ukraine until 2017, Iryna Herashchenko, Verkhovna Rada First Deputy Speaker and Ukraine’s representative in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group, said.

“The actions of the EU, the European Parliament and other institutions, which have been dragging out the visa-free issue for no reason, are disappointing and outrageous. And the EU is teaching Ukraine to be a responsible partner… Everything that is now happening in Brussels and other European capitals is a big historic mistake, Ukrainians and Georgians did not deserve this,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

According to Herashchenko, the Ukrainian public is losing trust in the EU, and that is “the fault and the responsibility of the EU itself.”

It was reported that the EP could hold a first reading of the issue of visa liberation with Ukraine in early April of 2017. According to the information posted on the EP’s website on Dec. 15, MEPs are planning to consider granting visa-free travel to Ukraine at a plenary session tentatively slated for April 3.

Earlier the date was already moved from Jan. 18 to Feb. 1, 2017.
