The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has condemned the holding of illegal elections in the territory of South Ossetia that is beyond Georgia control.

According to a statement on the official website of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Kyiv condemns the holding of the so-called “presidential election” and “a referendum on renaming this region of Georgia into the republic of South Ossetia – the state of Alania'” on April 9 in the Tskhinvali region of Georgia by the Russian occupation regime.

“Such illegal actions, along with holding the so-called ‘parliamentary elections’ in the occupied Abkhazian region of Georgia on March 12, 2017, are a gross violation of international law and a constituent element of Russia’s neo-imperial policy aimed at destabilizing and subjugating the states of Eastern Europe,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported on April 10.

The Foreign Ministry has reiterated that Ukraine supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, and does not recognize the results of these null and void actions, as well as any other illegal actions of the Kremlin.
