The Ukrainian side in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) declares its readiness to reach a compromise for the sake of releasing Ukrainians held in Russia and certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and counts on progress in resolving this issue after a telephone conversation held between Ukrainian and Russian Presidents Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Putin on June 9.

“The Ukrainian side is ready for compromises for the sake of the liberation of people who are being held in Russia and occupied Donbas. We hope that a telephone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia on this issue will contribute to the speedy resolution of the issue,” Darka Olifer, spokeswoman for second Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, who represents Ukraine in the TCG, wrote on her Facebook page on June 13.

In addition, she said, the Ukrainian side expects Russia to reconsider its position on an important humanitarian initiative – the creation, with the participation of Ukraine, Russia and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), of a trilateral mechanism for searching for missing persons.
