The Kyiv police have qualified an attack on Bloc of Petro Poroshenko MP Mustafa Nayyem, in which he sustained bodily injury, as hooliganism.

“The police established that the victim was moving in his own car towards Bessarabska Square. A Mercedes cut in front of him, and a quarrel broke out. At this moment a BMW drove up to them. During the conflict, one stranger punched the people’s deputy in the face. The offenders fled the scene,” the Kyiv police said in a report late on Monday, April 30.

The wanted Mercedes car was found, and three people involved in the conflict were detained nearby. The man who beat the people’s deputy was put on the wanted list.

“The investigation department of the Shevchenkivske police directorate launched criminal proceedings under Part 2, Article 266 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for up to four years of imprisonment,” the statement reads.

Nayyem was attacked by unidentified individuals as a result of a road conflict in the center of Kyiv on Monday, April 30, and is currently in hospital.
