Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin have discussed the release of Ukrainian political prisoners by telephone on Saturday, the Ukrainian presidential press service said.
“Poroshenko emphasized the importance of the prompt release of Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia and the occupied territories. The Ukrainian leader drew attention to the Ukrainians’ hunger strike and expressed concern about their deteriorating health,” the press service said following the conversation.
Poroshenko and Putin agreed on the Ukrainian and Russian human rights commissioners’ visits to detained citizens, it said.
