The multimillionaire benefactor has become not only a symbol in Odesa but an exemplar for Ukraine’s super affluent in this moment of truth.

The Syrian founder of the Kadorr Group Corporation and publisher of the Kyiv Post, Adnan Kivan, remains committed to defending the southern city of Ukraine, Odesa, against the Russian invaders.

Having lived in Ukraine for 41 years, a place he proudly calls his home, Kivan chose to stay in the country despite the war, emphasizing that “when the going gets tough, the tough get going!”

Since the beginning of the invasion, he has donated significant amounts of cement, steel, and other building materials to help the city build the much-needed constructions for defending itself against the Russian army.

Today, he continues to strengthen the protection of residential complexes while also providing humanitarian relief to those in need and supplying territorial defense units, law enforcement officers, and the military with the necessary equipment and goods.

“Odesa is united like never before for the world. Everyone helps each other. And this is a great thing. This inspires me more and more,” Kivan says.

The multimillionaire, guided by his devout Muslim faith, commitment to democracy, and love for his country of refuge, has become not only a symbol in Odesa but an exemplar for Ukraine’s tycoons and super-affluent in this moment of truth and need for pulling together.

Odesa has been building up its defense capacity for several weeks against shelling, including landmark monuments like the Duke of Richelieu, and placing anti-tank obstacles like the Czech hedgehog.
