Russian-backed mercenaries in the war-torn Donbas launched 51 attacks on Ukrainian army positions in the past 24 hours, the military press-service reported on Jan.9.

The separatists fired grenade launchers and small arms on Pavlopil, Krasnohorivka, Hnutove and Shyrokyne, and used 120mm and 82mm mortars near Maryinka, Hnutove, Shyrokyne, Vodiane and Talakivka. Shyrokyne town was also attacked  by 122mm tube artillery, while an infantry combat vehicle engaged in Maryinka and a tank in Talakivka.

In the Luhansk sector, grenade launchers and small arms were fired on Novozvanivka, Lopaskyne and Stanytsia Luhanska, and mortars shelled Troyitske.

In the Donetsk sector, the separatists fired 122mm artillery and infantry combat vehicle weapons on Luhanske, 82mm mortars on Avdiyivka, Mayorsk and Luhanske, and small arms and grenade launchers on Luhanske, Zaitseve and Avdiyivka, the staff said.

Three Ukrainian servicemen were injured during the attacks. the military press service has reported.
