Officers from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have cut off an illegal supply route in the Kharkiv region which was used to deliver medications to the breakaway republics in the Donbas region.
“Law enforcers have established that one of the organizers of the route, a resident of Kyiv region, got one of the leading pharmaceutical enterprises in Kharkiv region involved in the deal as a wholesale supplier of medications. The culprit transported the acquired medications to an equipped warehouse in a populated locality in the Donetsk region, near the dividing line. Then he personally delivered the medications to the territories temporarily out of Ukraine’s control,” the SBU said in a statement.
The man was apprehended while planning an attempt to smuggle another batch of medications across the dividing line. He was notified of being under suspicion of having committed a crime as per Article 110-2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (funding activities carried out with a view to changing territorial borders or the national border of Ukraine).
This article imposes a penalty of three to five years of imprisonment, with a ban from a certain public office or a certain profession for up to two years, and assets confiscation.
