Donbas militants focused almost all their attacks on Dec. 16, on the sector named after the Ukrainian-controlled strategic port city of Mariupol, the press center of Ukrainian military headquarters said.

“Using 122mm artillery systems, fighters attacked the villages of Shyrokyne, Lebedynske and Vodiane. They also used 120mm and 82mm mortars to shell the villages of Talakivka, Shyrokyne and Vodiane, and the town of Krasnohorivka. The town of Maryinka, and the villages of Hnutove, Novotroyitske, and Vodiane, were attacked with the use of grenade launchers and small arms. What is more, an enemy infantry fighting vehicle attacked Shyrokyne. Krasnohorivka also came under sniper fire,” the HQ said in an update on Dec. 16 evening.

Illegal armed formations in the Luhansk sector used small arms to fire on the village of Nyzhniotelpe, while 82mm mortars, grenade launchers of various systems and small arms were used to attack the town of Avdiyivka in the Donetsk sector.

“There have been 19 attacks in total, 17 of them were [reported] in the Mariupol sector,” the HQ said.
