Ukraine and Poland have signed an agreement on cooperation in the sphere of defense.

The document was signed by Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak and Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland Tomasz Szatkowsky during the official visit of the Ukrainian head of state to Poland, Interfax-Ukraine has reported.

According to the official website of the Ukrainian president, the document was signed after negotiations of the delegations chaired by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and President of Poland Andrzej Duda.

The agreement was developed by the Ministry of Defense in accordance with the Ukrainian law on international treaties of Ukraine under the initiative of Poland. The aim of the document is to establish a legal framework for the development of defense cooperation between the parties on the principles of reciprocity.

The agreement creates a legal basis for expanding Ukrainian-Polish cooperation in the defense industry, in particular, in the following areas: military communication and information systems, carrying out research work for the needs of the armed forces, defense policy and planning, logistic support for the armed forces, conducting military engineering works, military infrastructure, the development, modernization, manufacture and supply of defense equipment, cooperation in defense, special forces operations, other areas of cooperation by mutual consent of the parties.
