MOSCOW– The Libyan settlement, the situation in Syria, and the settlement of the conflict in Donbas were in the focus of a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his German counterpart Heiko Maas, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 56th Munich Security Conference on Feb. 15.

“The main focus was placed on the settlement of the Libyan conflict in light of the International Conference on Libya which took place in Berlin on Jan. 19 and the first session of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission under UN auspices in Geneva,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

While discussing the situation in Syria, “the emphasis was placed on the task of de-escalating the situation in Idlib,” it said.

“The parties exchanged views on the establishment of work as part of ‘the Normandy format’ on the settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine on the basis of the decisions of the summit in Paris on Dec. 9, 2019,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

In addition, “individual bilateral issues were also addressed,” it said.
