MOSCOW – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on Kyiv to stop the encroachment on the Moscow Patriarchate’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

“It is necessary to stop the manhunt after the Moscow Patriarchate’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, curb the state interference into the affairs of the church, which has promoted the unity of the Ukrainian people for centuries,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at the 25th International Educational Christmas Readings in the Kremlin.

Speaking on the Middle East region, he said that “cruel harassment, frequently intentional elimination of the Christian population in the region, destruction of cultural facilities of global significance cause particular worry and concern.”

“Regretfully, the EU evades the discussion of the problems of Christians in the Middle East under the disguise of notorious political correctness,” Lavrov said.
