You're reading: Lawyer: Sentsov’s recovery after hunger strike a success

Dmitry Dinze, lawyer for Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov incarcerated in Russia, has said his client has successfully recovered from his hunger strike and is feeling well, Krym.Realii, the U.S.-government funded portal of Radio Free Liberty/Radio Europe, has reported.

“As for his physical condition, there is no need to worry. He has gained weight and is about 90 kilograms and he feels fine. He suffers from chronic ailments which flare up every once in a while. His recovery has been successful,” Dinze told the portal.

Dinze attributed Sentsov’s recovery to “individual features of his body.”

“Oleh’s body was able to recover, while others would not be able to. Therefore, he was lucky,” the lawyer said.

Dinze also called Sentsov’s psychological state “excellent,” attributing it “to the fact that he is constantly engaged in something creative.”

As reported, the North Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don in August 2015 sentenced Sentsov, detained in Crimea in 2014, to 20 years in a strict-regime colony. He was accused of creating a terrorist group in Crimea. Sentsov denied all charges.

On May 14, 2018, Sentsov went on a hunger strike demanding that all Ukrainians illegally detained in Russia be released. During the hunger strike, the medical staff of the colony supported him with nutrient mixtures. Sentsov announced the end of the hunger strike on October 6, 2018, because of the threat of forced feeding. He said he had achieved the goal of his hunger strike.
