You're reading: Lawyers appeal against RIA Novosti Ukraine head Vyshinsky’s arrest in Ukraine

The arrest of Kirill Vyshinsky, the director of RIA Novosti Ukraine, has been appealed, his lawyer Andriy Domansky told Interfax-Ukraine on May 21.

“Yes, the appeal has been filed… with the Kherson regional court of appeals,” Domansky said.

The appeal was sent by mail on May 21 and will be submitted to the court tomorrow, May 22, he said.

Hopefully, the court will set a date for an appeal hearing within five days, Domansky said.

The Ukrainian Security Service, or SBU, detained chief of RIA Novosti Ukraine Vyshinsky in Kyiv on May 15. He was warned of being a suspect in a high treason criminal case later on the same day.

Last Thursday, the Kherson City Court ordered the arrest until July 13 as a measure of restraint against the journalist.
