VILNIUS – The Lithuanian government decided on Nov.29 to transfer 2 million euros’ worth of arms and ammunition to Ukraine, the country’s Defense Ministry said.

Ukraine will receive weapons no longer used by the Lithuanian army which were used before the country switched to NATO standards, the ministry said.

The transferred arsenal includes more than 7 000 Kalashnikov rifles and nearly 2 million cartridges.

There are also 80 machineguns, over ten mortars, and anti-tank and other weapons.

“The transfer of the property is part of Lithuania’s consistent and comprehensive support for Ukraine in strengthening the defensive capabilities and protecting the sovereignty of states,” Defense Minister Riamundas Karoblis was quoted as saying.

The first time Lithuania sent its decommissioned weapons to Ukraine was in 2014, after the conflict in Donbas began.
