You're reading: Lithuanian FM: Ukraine should stick to Minsk agreements until other option appears

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius has said that Ukraine should adhere to the Minsk agreements regarding the end of the war in Donbas, until other option is found, as the sanctions against the Russian Federation are introduced for the non-implementation of these agreements.

“Minsk format has a lot of shortcomings. I also share this point of view. But as long as there is no other option, we need to adhere to these agreements and demand their implementation, as we initially had decided. If someone thinks that these agreements are outdated and they can be somehow put aside, then only people who want to lift the sanctions [of the EU imposed on Russia] can speak about it, since they were introduced for the non-implementation of these agreements,” he said during the Pravo Na Vladu (Right to Power) program on the 1+1 television channel aired on April 25.

At the same time, Linkevicius agrees that Europe should more decisively respond to such actions of the Russian Federation as a decision to issue passports to residents of the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

“Moreover, little is changing, in fact. We make statements, we are outraged, but this is not enough. We need to behave more decisively, especially since this is “testing.” If those, who violate international law, understand that they can do it and the consequences will be minimal, they will think that they can repeat it,” he said.
