The Marshall Plan for Ukraine, an initiative to support Ukraine by the European Union (EU), was presented to foreign diplomats in the Seimas on Nov. 6, Lithuanian news portal diena.lt reported.

Ambassadors of the countries participating in the Western and Eastern partnerships, as well as Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis, Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius took part in the presentation.

“The essence of this plan is to unite all of us, of course, with the participation of the European Commission. The Eastern Partnership is approaching, and we believe that one of the tasks should be to support this plan,” Linkevicius said.

He also noted that European partners should support Ukraine in the way of reforms.

“It is very important for us that the support provided to Ukraine be effective so that donors willingly spend money on it, so that they won’t be scared of the bureaucracy and the corruption that remains. Together we see that time is not our ally because people are tired: from war, from bureaucracy, from deprivation,” the minister said.

With the initiative to support Ukraine from the EU, the so-called Marshall Plan for Ukraine was made by former Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius last year. He visited the most important capitals of Western Europe with Deputy Speaker of the Seimas Gediminas Kirkilas.

As reported, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze said that in Vilnius on November 6 the Marshall Plan for Ukraine will be presented for the ambassadors of the EU countries, the U.S., Canada and Japan. The Marshall Plan for Ukraine is intended for ten years and in the medium term (2018-2020) provides for the allocation of $ 5 billion per year.
