You're reading: Locating extent of forest fires in Chornobyl zone continues

As of Saturday, April 25, at 11 a.m., locating the extent of forest fires continues in six forestry areas of the Chornobyl exclusion zone and the zone of unconditional (mandatory) resettlement: Lubianske, Dytiatkivske, Kotovske, Denysovytske, Korohodske and Paryshivske.

The State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management said on its Facebook page that the Emergency Service units and firefighters of forest fire stations are involved in extinguishing fire.

“As largest as possible amounts of water are dropped on some spots of smoldering forest floor and stumps to prevent new blazing,” the agency said.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Ukraine mobilized heavy engineering machinery of the Emergency Service and five tracklayers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Fire barrier lines 949 km long have been created. Three An-32P and three helicopters have made 79 drops of water (176 tonnes) since April 24 to douse fire.

A total of 1,122 personnel and 270 machinery unites are involved in extinguishing fire.

No threat to the Shelter facility, the spent nuclear waste storage facility and other critical facilities of the exclusion zone is reported.
