Former Ukrainian Deputy Fuel and Energy Minister Ihor Kyriushyn was detained in Georgia on March 25, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said on Facebook late on March 28.

“The Main Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office is holding a preliminary inquiry into activity of the deputy fuel and energy minister in the Yanukovych Cabinet, Mr. Kyriushyn, on suspicion of complicity in the embezzlement of over Hr 2 billion worth of Ukrnafta and Ukrgazvydobuvannia assets under Yanukovych’s supervision,” he said.

The Georgian police have put Kyriushyn under a 90-day arrest, while a decision to extradite him to Ukraine is pending, Lutsenko said.
