The military prosecutor’s office of Lviv garrison together with the National Police officers have detained the head of the interregional customs department of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine when he was receiving a $60,520 and Hr 10,000 bribe from officials of Lviv customs, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said.

“Today, the military prosecutor’s office of the Lviv garrison together with the operational staff of the National Protection Department of the National Police, in the framework of the supervision under part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code, have detained the head of the Interregional Customs Department of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine during the receipt of his regular monthly collection of improper benefits from officials of Lviv customs in the amount of $60,520 and Hr 10,000,” Lutsenko wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday.

He noted that the post held by the detainee was created by the central office of the State Fiscal Service with the specific aim of fighting corruption of local customs officers.

“The government must make systemic changes within the customs service,” the prosecutor general said.

As was later reported by the Department of Economic Protection of the National Police of Ukraine, the criminal proceedings were launched under part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The head of the Interregional Customs Department of the State Fiscal Service was detained, the issue of electing a preventive measure for the suspect is currently being decided.
