Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko is on an official visit to the People’s Republic of China, his press secretary Larysa Sarhan said on June 25.

“Today Yuriy Lutsenko has met with China’s Procurator General Zhang Jun in the Supreme People’s Procuratorate,” she wrote on Facebook.

Later the press service of the Ukrainian prosecutor general’s office added that during the meeting the parties exchanged experience of reforming the agencies and the importance of role of a prosecutor in criminal proceedings.

The sides also achieved agreement on the exchange of experience when implementing modern IT instruments in the work of the departments, as well as the introduction of joint training modules in specialized educational institutions.

“The progressive experience and the modern approach of Chinese colleagues to the investigation into criminal cases will undoubtedly serve to increase the effectiveness of work of the prosecutor’s office of Ukraine,” Lutsenko said.

“One of the key objectives of reforming the Prosecutor General’s Office in Ukraine is the introduction of electronic document circulation and electronic criminal proceedings. Because at the time when we are doing endless paperwork, criminals transfer to cryptocurrency and “cloud” storage,” he stressed.

In addition, the Chinese counterpart expressed interest in further cooperation between the prosecutor’s offices of the two countries in such priority areas as combating smuggling, cybercrime, human trafficking, and money laundering.
