Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has said expertise in cases involving shootings on Maidan (Independence Square) in February 2014 has been completed.

“We finished conducting tests in the cases of several persons, who, according to investigators, gave orders to attack peaceful protests. The expertise took a long time, but the conclusions support the facts, which were difficult for our investigators to gather,” Lutsenko said on Inter TV channel on Dec. 7 evening.

Lutsenko said in early 2019 the investigation will be completed and the public will be announced that disgraced ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, ex-Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Vitaliy Zakharchenko, as well as the former head of Ukraine’s SBU Security Service Oleksandr Yakymenko and ex-commander of the Interior Ministry’s internal troops Stanyslav Shuliak and their subordinates gave the orders “leading to the deaths of more than 100 people on the Maidan. Some 1,500 were wounded, and this was an unprecedented event in the life of the Ukrainian state.”

“I think this will be the most important event of the first half of the next year,” said the prosecutor general.
