Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko said investigators made a mistake while probing in the murder of journalist Pavel Sheremet, having failed to seize one of the most important video recordings.

“Concerning the murder of Mr. Sheretmet, the investigation is conducted by the National Police of Ukraine. We also assigned our best prosecutors there. I have to admit that an error was made during this investigation. The exact mistake is that when seizing the 201 CCTV camera, another one, as it turned out, the most important camera – was not taken, and all this time investigators were lacking very important information,” Lutsenko said reporting to the Verkhovna Rada on May 24.

“We learnt about this video footage thanks to journalists. It’s a pity that this became known to the whole world, and not just to the investigation, but nevertheless these recordings are very important for the inquiry,” he added.

The prosecutor said that the leadership of the National Police recognized their error and “is now trying to make up for the time lost.”
