German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who was on a working visit to Ukraine on May 31 and June 1, has discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin the issue of support for Ukraine in upholding its territorial integrity and sovereignty, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.

Maas and Klimkin on Friday visited the contact line in the area of the Joint Forces Operation, familiarized themselves with the situation in eastern Ukraine and raised the issue of the deployment of a UN peacekeeping force to the entire occupied territory of Donbas.

According to the ministry, Maas said that the German government would not leave Ukraine alone in the settlement of the military conflict in Donbas.

“The parties agreed to hold a meeting of the Normandy Four in the near future,” the report says.

Mass and Klimkin highly assessed relations between Ukraine and Germany, as well as the intensification of trade and investment cooperation between the two states.

Klimkin also stressed the importance of preventing the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project, which will contribute to deepening the European crisis.
